On the participation of Belarus’ delegation at the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week

The delegation of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus, leaded by Igor Zarembo, the head of the state fire and emergency rescue unit “Republican Detachment of Special Purpose”, takes part in the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week, which is being held under the auspices of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) in Geneva from 5 to 9 February.

At the event the meeting of the Consultative Board of the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) and the meeting of the Steering Committee of the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) will be held. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the creation of UNDAC, a group of experts from all around the world who are ready to arrive promptly in the affected country and coordinate international assistance and rescue operations.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus takes an active part in these initiatives. Since 2002, Belarus has become a member of INSARAG, since 2012 the Belarusian expert has been a part of the international UNDAC team. Since 2013, the search and rescue team operating on the basis of the Republican Detachment of Special Purpose has been certified in accordance with the INSARAG standards and is one of the most qualified detachments in the world (so-called heavy detachments). The specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus also assist countries that are preparing for INSARAG attestation by conducting thematic training courses (in 2012 and 2017) and sending their specialists for training detachments of other countries.

Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week – an annual major event held since 2015 under the auspices of the UN OCHA. The Aim of the Week is to coordinate the international efforts on emergency response to the most complex humanitarian crises (natural, man-made or related to the armed conflicts).
