On Participation of Belarusian Delegation in WTO Activities

09.12.2016

The delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus on 7 to 9 December 2016 took part in the work of the General Council of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and held a series of bilateral meetings with the WTO Members and the WTO Secretariat to discuss pending issues in the framework of Belarus’ WTO accession process.

The delegation of Belarus delivered a statement at the General Council informing the WTO membership of the work completed by the Belarusian side on preparation of the documentary basis for advancement of the accession talks, as well as expressing the interest in the intensification of such negotiations. The decision on appointment of H.E. Mr. Kemal Madenoğlu, the Permanent Representative of Turkey to the WTO, as new Chairman of the Working Party on the Accession of Belarus to the WTO was taken in the framework of the General Council. Belarus welcomed this appointment and assured the new Chairman of full support in the execution of his new functions.

Bilateral meetings with the WTO Members allowed to render more concrete approaches to the continuation of talks, including on market access matters, as well as to narrow the volume of unresolved issues.
