20.05.2020

On May 20, 2020, a meeting of the Member Countries of the Executive Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) was held under the Chairmanship of the Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Office in Geneva Yury Ambrazevich. The event was held in a video conference format.

The meeting identified the procedural issues of the activities of a number of UNECE working bodies during the pandemic, which allows them to continue working in the face of restrictions on international meetings in a live format.

During the dialogue with the head of the Inland Transport Committee, the Belarusian delegation proposed to consider the impact of restrictive measures introduced by a number of countries in connection with the pandemic on the functioning of multilateral transport conventions administered by the UNECE.

The Member States welcomed the activities of the UNECE secretariat in developing the organization’s tools to assist European countries in post-crisis economic recovery. In the same context, there were made the statements that the UNECE mandate, which is to promote the development of economic relations between European countries and other regions, is relevant and in demand in the current crisis.
