On the meeting of the Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN in Geneva with IOM’s Deputy Director-General

On 29 May,2018, Mr Yury Ambrazevich, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, met with Ms Laura Thompson, Deputy Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). During the meeting they discussed the ongoing campaign for the election of the Director General.

Background information: The election will be held on June 29 at the Second Special Session of the IOM Council. Three candidates apply for the post of the Director General: 1) Laura Thompson (Costa Rica), who is the current Deputy Director General of IOM, as well as Antonio Vitorino (Portugal) and James Isaacs (USA).

Moreover, they have also touched upon such topics as IOM's program activities in the Republic of Belarus, combatting trafficking in persons, Belarus’ representation in the IOM secretariat and the process of developing a global compact on migrants.
