17.03.2017

On March 17, 2017 the Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Belarus D.Pinevich and the Permanent Representative of Belarus to the United Nations Office in Geneva Y.Ambrazevich participated in the Second Meeting of the Global Review Panel of UNAIDS.

Reference: The purpose of the panel is to assess the capacity of UNAIDS in the field of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment operations and to develop appropriate recommendations.

During the event the representatives of Belarus as members of the UNAIDS Program Coordinating Board (the executive body of the Joint Program) presented the national experience in combating HIV/AIDS, as well as the directions for identifying, preventing and terminating the AIDS epidemic in the future. They spoke for the need to reduce the cost of procurement of antiretroviral drugs due to the flexibility of price policies on available international trading platforms. The example of the agreements reached in Minsk in November 2016 in the framework of the Minsk regional consultations on expanding access to affordable and quality antiretroviral therapy and the treatment of tuberculosis in Eastern Europe and Central Asia cited the positive experience of regional cooperation on the issue.

D.Pinevich held a meeting with UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé and the Deputy Directors Luis Loures and Jan Beagle. It was agreed that M.Sidibe will visit Minsk on April 11-12, 2017.
