Belarus’s participation in the 23rd International Meeting of Mine Action National Directors and United Nations Advisers

On February 11–14, 2020 Geneva hosted the 23rd International Meeting of Mine Action National Directors and United Nations Advisers. The event is held under the auspices of the UN Inter-Agency Group on Mine Action Coordination and brings together experts in the field of demining, representing states, international organizations and relevant non-governmental organizations.

The 23rd meeting addressed a wide range of issues of interest to Belarus, including the exchange of experience and best practices in territory clearance from explosive remnants of war, humanitarian demining, strengthening sub-regional and regional cooperation.

A delegate of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus, Head of the National Mine-Action Centre, Lieutenant Colonel Siarhei Dziamchyshyn took part in the event. In his statement the Belarusian representative presented the creation of the National Mine-Action Centre in November 2019, informed the audience about its activities and international cooperation. The Belarusian delegation presented a positive experience of Belarus in territory demining and preventive work with local population.

Meetings were held with representatives of the national mine action services of foreign states, relevant international and non-governmental organizations.

The exchange of experience and established contacts will allow the continuation of systematic work on capacity-building for the functioning of the national mine action service, as well as on strengthening regional cooperation.
