On Belarus’ participation in the Third round of the Intergovernmental Process on Strengthening Respect for IHL

06.12.2017

On December 4-6, 2017 the delegation of Belarus took part in the Third Round of the Intergovernmental Process on Strengthening Respect for International Humanitarian Law (IHL).

During the general debate, Deputy Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva, Vadim Pisarevich, noted Belarus’ commitment to the process aimed at strengthening respect for the IHL and welcomed efforts of the participating States to reach a mutually acceptable solution in this regard. He also stressed that it was  disrespect for international law that brought about wars and conflicts around the globe. In this regard he drew the attention to the initiative of the President of the Republic of Belarus on the need to find new mechanisms for positive engagement of great powers and stated Belarus' readiness to act as a platform for such a dialogue.

The intergovernmental process was established by resolution of the International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in 2015 to find ways of strengthening compliance with international humanitarian law, including through regular and open dialogue between States on IHL.
