On the participation of the Belarusian delegation in the meetings of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV)

On October 23-26, 2017, the Belarusian delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Vladimir Grakun took part in the meetings of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) in Geneva, including the 51st session of the UPOV Council, the 74th session of the Administrative and Legal Committee, the 3rd meeting of the Working Group on a Possible International System of Cooperation, the 94th session of the Consultative Committee, as well as the 4th meeting on the Development of an Electronic Application Form. The delegation also included representatives of the State Inspection for Testing and Protection of Plant Varieties and the Permanent Mission of Belarus in Geneva.

During the UPOV meetings the participants considered the issues related to the protection of plant varieties, the control over the use of genetically modified varieties, the automated system for applying Belarusian varieties on the UPOV electronic platform, as well as the harmonization of legislation in the field of plant variety protection at the international level.

Vladimir Grakun met with the UPOV Vice Secretary-General Peter Button. An agreement was reached on the organization in 2018 of the visit of UPOV representatives to Belarus with a view to holding a national workshop on the creation of the legal framework of Belarus in the field of protection of plant varieties and seed production.
