Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus published a report “The most resonant cases of human rights violations in some countries in 2013”

17.02.2014

The report highlights specific cases of human rights violations in 2013 in number of states members of the European Union, in the United States and Canada. A distinctive feature of the document is legal analysis of the specific facts of human rights violations against norms and standards contained in international human rights treaties.

The publication was prepared on the basis on various sources, such as the results of countries' reviews during the second cycle of the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review, observations of the Human Rights Council’s special thematic procedures and the UN treaty bodies, information of international, regional, and national governmental and non-governmental organizations, and media materials.

The main objective of the report was not a criticism in itself, and not a reaction to criticism, but rather debunking the myth that there exist perfect countries, which are master plates in the field of human rights, or there are “countries – defenders” and “countries – violators”. Human rights should be the unifying, not dividing element. Therefore, the Republic of Belarus is strongly in favor of a non-confrontational and impartial approach by states and international organizations to this issue of human rights in the framework of a mutually respectful and constructive dialogue in the field of human rights.

The report can be downloaded from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Website at the following address: http://mfa.gov.by/en/publications/reports (English version) and http://mfa.gov.by/publication/reports (Russian version).
