On the Participation of the Belarusian Delegation in the WIPO Forum for Judges
15.11.2019On 13 – 15 November 2019, the WIPO 2019 Forum for Judges on Intellectual Property took place at the WIPO headquarters in Geneva. The event was attended by over 110 judges from about 60 WIPO Member States. Belarus was represented by Mr. Aleh Latyshevich, Judge of the Supreme Court.
The agenda of the Forum was devoted to the consideration of the implementation of policies in the field of intellectual property in the context of the development of innovative environment by countries, the strengthening of transboundary cooperation on the commercialization and sharing of intellectual property, as well as the exchange of data on holders of rights to these objects. Forum aims to enhance a dialogue between the judicial authorities on the settlement of disputes in the field of copyright, trademarks, designs and patents, which are not always fully regulated by the national legislation of member States.
Mr. Aleh Latyshevich participated as a speaker at the session “Exhaustion of IP rights and parallel import”, where he presented a report on the practice in Belarus regarding the exhaustion of intellectual property rights on goods sold on the domestic market, as well as on measures taken in the country to regulate the parallel import of goods protected by intellectual property rights.
The representative of the Belarusian Supreme Court held bilateral meetings with representatives of the judicial authorities of the United States, Australia, Turkey, India, as well as members of the WIPO Legal Department.
