On Belarus’ participation of in the UNECE International Forum on Public-Private Partnerships

On 7 – 9 May 2019, the fourth UNECE International Forum on Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) on the “The Last Mile: Promoting People-first PPPs for the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” took place in Geneva.

Belarus at the Forum was represented by Ms. Iryna Kalenchak, Head of the Department for Investment Policy of the Ministry of Economy, Mr. Roman Aleynikov, Chief Specialist at Belarus – China Industrial Park “The Great Stone” development Company, and Ms. Natalia Ovsyanko, Representative of the Center for Innovations of the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus.

 

Participants shared the best practices on the application of the UNECE PPP standards in the field of railways and roads construction, renewable energy, water resources and sanitation, as well as introduced national policies, legislation and institutions in the field of public-private partnerships.
A number of projects under of the “One Belt, One Road” Initiative of China, which create sustainable infrastructure for communication between Europe and Asia including Belarus, were presented at the Forum.

Iryna Kalenchak and Roman Aleynikov informed participants about the possibilities of attracting investments using PPPs mechanism in the development of the social infrastructure of the Industrial Park “Great Stone”, including the introduction of elements of a “smart” city on its territory.

According to the outcomes of the Forum, it is planned to draft a final framework document that will enclose recommendations for the development of projects, as well as for strengthening the national capacity of the countries of the UNECE region in the field of PPP aimed at achieving the SDGs and ensuring human well-being.
