On participation of the Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Mr. Andrei Dapkiunas in an interactive dialogue on the role of small states in the maintenance of international peace and security

On February 26, 2019, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Mr. Andrei Dapkiunas took part in an interactive discussion on the role of small states in the maintenance of international peace and security.

In his speech Mr. Andrei Dapkiunas stressed that the answer to the current security crisis can only be the immediate launch of new large-scale multilateral negotiations to overcome the whole range of differences.

The Deputy Foreign Minister noted that the Belarusian side adheres, that proceeds small states should shape dialogue and confidence-building measures and partnerships to overcome existing differences.

The Belarusian side believes that small and medium-sized countries must oppose the emergence of new division lines between the great powers’ spheres of influence and reject reject a far-fetched or an externally imposed geopolitical choice. According to Mr. Andrei Dapkiunas, the establishment of a global network of diverse multi-level and multi-stakeholder thematic partnerships can also help reduce tensions.

The representative of Belarus called on small and medium-sized states to be the moral force of good on the planet.

Permanent representatives of Switzerland and Singapore, as well as experts of the Geneva Center for Security Policy addressed the event as eminent speakers.
