56th WIPO Assemblies start working

The 56-th Series of the WIPO Assemblies began their work on October 3, 2016 in Geneva. The key event within the Series is the session of the WIPO General Assembly.

The Republic of Belarus is represented at the event by the delegation headed by Yury Ambrazevich, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus in Geneva. The delegation includes also the Director-General of the National Center of Intellectual Property Piotr Brovkin and other representatives of the National Center of Intellectual Property and the Permanent Mission.

The head of the Belarusian delegation delivered a statement at the plenary session of the WIPO General Assembly. He positively assessed the cooperation of Belarus with WIPO and its working bodies. The statement reflected the constructive position of Belarus in relation to the WIPO normative agenda, in particular, to the development of international treaties in the fields of industrial design law and the protection of broadcasting organizations. The Permanent representative informed on the entrance into force of the Patent Law Treaty with respect to the Republic of Belarus in October 2016 and on the accession process to the Marrakesh and Beijing Treaties. The head of delegation stated that Belarus and WIPO are negotiating on the establishment of the Technology and Innovation Support Centers in Belarus.

Belarus welcomed the Organization’s efforts to implement the recommendations of the Development Agenda. Yury Ambrazevich expressed gratitude to WIPO for its support in the organization of national and regional workshops on various aspects of intellectual property. The diplomat also thanked the Department for Transition and Developed Countries for a constructive and fruitful work aimed at effective implementation of projects and programs in the region.
