On the participation of the Belarusian delegation in the 71st session of the World Health Assembly
23.05.2018On May 21-26, 2018,the delegation of the Republic of Belarus headed by the Minister of Health Mr. Valery Malashko takes part in the 71st session of the World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva.
The session addresses issues of contemporary challenges in public health, the fight against infectious and noncommunicable diseases and the improvement of health systems that will contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
On May 22 the Minister of Health of the Republic of Belarus Mr. Valery Malashko addressed the plenary session of the WHA with a report on the theme of the general discussion “Health for All: commit to Universal Health Coverage”.
During the 71st WHA session Mr. Valery Malashko met with the Chairman of the WHA Dr. David Parirenyatwa from Zimbabwe, as well as the Executive Director of UNAIDS M.Sidibe and the Executive Director of the Global Fund P.Sands discussing the issues of expanding of further cooperation.The special emphasis was made on the Second regional meeting on expanding access to quality and low-cost medicines in the countries of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Region scheduled for November 21-22, 2018 in Belarus and organized in cooperation with UNAIDS, the Global Fund and WHO
In the frame of the meeting with the Assistant Director-General of WHO Svetlana Akselrod and the Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe Zhuzhanna Jakab the aspects of cooperation in the areas of oncology, transplantology, elimination of trans fats and reduction of salt consumption by the population of Belarus were discussed.
During the bilateral meetings with the Ministers of Health of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Ukraine, Poland, Syria, Iraq and Algeria the issues of supplies of Belarusian drugs on the markets of these countries were discussed as well as providing of high-tech medical assistance to foreign citizens in the Belarusian health institutions, foreign students education and training of foreign specialists in the Belarusian medical institutions of higher education were also on the agenda.
