On the participation of the Belarusian delegation in the meeting of the Working Group on the Development of the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks

On 2 – 6 July 2018, the 16th session of the Working Group on Legal Development of the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization took place in Geneva. Representatives of 55 member States of the Madrid Union and 14 observer countries, as well as representatives of international organizations participated in the session.

The Belarusian delegation at the meeting was represented by Ms.Galina Liutova, the Head of the International Registrations Unit of the National Intellectual Property Center. Ms. Liutova made presentation on the support to the Russian language as a working language under the framework of the Madrid system, as well as on the necessity to improve the quality of published materials in Russian.

At the meeting of the Working Group, several issues of the interest for Belarus were considered, including those on the procedural aspects of the international registration of trademarks, the filing of relevant applications to the national patent offices, the application of new types of marks and their presentation, as well as the application of the Madrid Agreement.

The Belarusian delegation took active part in the discussions on restrictions to the international registration of marks, the expansion of the list of working languages of the Madrid Union.
