On the visit of UNECE expert mission to Minsk on preparation of the National Aging Strategy

The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Belarus in cooperation with the Secretariat of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has started preparation of a National Strategy for the Elderly People of Belarus.

 

With the aim to study the legislative, organizational and institutional framework for the development of policies in the interests of an aging society, on 10-14 December 2018, UNECE experts from the Population, Demography and Statistics Unit visited Minsk. The Commission's experts held a number of meetings in the governmental bodies  of Belarus, including the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Education, MART, the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services, the National Statistical Committee, parliamentarians, representatives of civil society and trade unions. Experts also visited the Territorial Center for Social Services for the Population of the Minsk Region, as well as the City Home Boarding School for War and Labor Veterans “Svitanak”. 

As the outcome of the mission, UNECE experts will analyze and summarize the data with the aim to develop concrete recommendations to the Belarusian side on the elaboration of the draft National Strategy. These recommendations, as expected, to be considered during the next mission of the UNECE Secretariat to the Republic of Belarus, which is scheduled for April 2019.
