The delegation of the Belarusian Red Cross Society headed by Olga Mychko, Secretary General of BRCS, paid a visit to Geneva on 7 – 10 February.

The delegation of BRCS took part in the Partnership meeting between National Societies and International Committee of the Red Cross – ICRC, which was dedicated to the main theme: «Working together in an increasingly polarized and violent world». Participants came together to discuss the impact of current global developments on the work of ICRC and National Societies in armed conflict and other situations of violence; to discuss current challenges and threats, to find solutions on the mitigation of potential risks and further consolidation of joint efforts.

During the visit Olga Mychko met with the Director General of the ICRC Mr. Yves Daccord, representatives of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies – IFRC to discuss the current state and possible areas of future cooperation, including organization of joint events.

The history of the Belarusian Red Cross Society dates back to 1872, when the Minsk section of the Russian Society on Caring for the Wounded and Sick Soldiers had been established. Since 1995, when BRCS had been officially acknowledged by ICRC, BRCS became a member of the so-called International Red Cross Movement which encompasses all National Societies, ICRC, as well as IFRC.
