On the participation of Belarus’ delegation in 72nd World Health Assembly
22.05.2019On May 20-28, 2019, the 72nd World Health Assembly (WHA) is taking place in Geneva (Swiss Confederation), which is the highest body of the World Health Organization (WHO). The delegations of the Republic of Belarus led by Mr. Valery Malashko, Minister of Health, takes part in the session.
On May 21 Minister of Health of the Republic of Belarus Mr. Valery Malashko made a statement at the plenary meeting of the 72nd session of the WHA with a report on the topic of the general discussion “Universal coverage of health care services: leave no one behind”.
The head of the Ministry of Health informed the Assembly participants on the achievements in providing public services to the public health sector, the priorities of state policy and specific government efforts to improve the national system.
At the 72nd WHA session Mr. Valery Malashko held meetings with the Director-General of WHO Mr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, the Deputy Director-General of WHO Ms. Zsuzsanna Jakab, the Acting Executive Director of UNAIDS Ms. Gunilla Carlsson, the Director-General of UNAIDS Mr. Shannon Heider and the Director-General of the Medicines Patent Pool
Mr. Charles Gore. Opportunities and directions for the further development of the interaction of Belarus with WHO, UNAIDS and the Patent Pool for the development of Belarusian healthcare were discussed during the meetings.
Also Belarus’ Minister held meetings with the Ministers of Health of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Mali, Moldova, the Russian Federation, Syria, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan. The issues of expanding bilateral cooperation in the field of health care and the results achieved in the development of Belarusian exports of medical and educational services, increasing exports of Belarusian medicines, including through the creation of joint ventures in the territories of the countries concerned were discussed by the participants.
