Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva Yury Ambrazevich met UNCTAD Secretary-General

The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva Mr. Yury Ambrazevich met the Secretary-General of UNCTAD Mr. Mukhisa Kituyi on March 16, 2017. A set of issues on cooperation between Belarus and UNCTAD was discussed with the Secretary-General of the international organization.

Yury Ambrazavich and Mukhisa Kituyi specifically discussed the possibilities of using UNCTAD for the implementation of the initiative of the President of the Republic of Belarus on “integration of integrations” including the idea of holding an international conference with participation of leaders of major economic integration organizations from around the world.

In this context, the Permanent Representative of Belarus informed the Secretary-General of UNCTAD on the international conference on economic integration, which was held in Minsk in October 2016 under the auspices of the UN Economic Commission for Europe and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus. He also briefed on the plans to use the presidency of Belarus in the Central European Initiative for continued advancing of the topic «Promoting connectivity in a Wider Europe».

The Secretary-General of UNCTAD expressed support to Belarus’ efforts on active promotion of the agenda of practical economic cooperation of regional and sub-regional economic entities and shared his deep conviction that the economic ties and mutual complementarity are a key factor of political stability and a prerequisite for resolution of political conflicts.
