20.03.2018

On March 19, 2018 the meeting between the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Office in Geneva Yuri Ambrazevich and the Assistant Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) Svetlana Axelrod was held.

On the initiative of the Permanent Representative of Belarus, the possibilities of WHO to engage technical expertise in Belarus in the prevention, early warning and treatment of noncommunicable diseases were discussed. The agreements on institutional preservation of WHO special attention to Belarus on the topic of NCDs prevention have been confirmed. Such a focus creates the prerequisites for continued international support, including financial projects implemented in our country to promote healthy lifestyles, prevent tuberculosis, screening breast cancer and improve the primary health care system.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress in the preparation of the second regional consultations on access to quality and affordable drugs  for HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis treatment. The consultations are organized by the Ministry of Health of Belarus in Minsk in late 2018 with the organizational and financial assistance of WHO, UNAIDS, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

During the meeting the participation of the Republic of Belarus in the activities of WHO, designed to assist member states in ensuring the universal health coverage to all was also discussed. An exchange of views on the approaches of Belarus to the developing “WHO's General Program of Work for the period 2019-2023” took place.
