Belarus organizes special event dedicated to World Day against Trafficking in Persons in Geneva

Palais des Nations in Geneva hosted a panel discussion dedicated to the first ever World Day against Trafficking in Persons. The event was organized by Belarus as a coordinator of the Group of Friends United in the Fight against Human Trafficking, with the support of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The event was attended by over 70 representatives of states, international organizations and civil society, and UN High Commissioner for human rights Navanethem Pillay.

The participants noted the importance of joint efforts in the fight against trafficking in persons, stressed the importance of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons to draw attention to this serious problem and improve coordination among states, international organizations, non-governmental organizations.

Deputy Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva Alexander Opimakh informed the participants of the event of the measures taken in the country in order to counter human trafficking and protect victims of trafficking, and of the efforts in the international arena to strengthen coordination and cooperation in this area.
