The Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva Y.Ambrazevich meets the WHO Director-General

On October 26, 2017 the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Office in Geneva Y.Ambrazevich met with the Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesus.

During the meeting the current issues and prospects of bilateral cooperation of the Republic of Belarus with WHO headquarters in Geneva, WHO office in Minsk and WHO Regional Office for Europe in Copenhagen were discussed. The interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the content and dynamics of interaction.

Taking into account the ongoing work on the preparation of the next four-year WHO General framework programme, Yury Ambrazevich stressed the need to maintain an adequate response of the organization to the needs of the middle-income countries, to which the Republic of Belarus belongs.

The Director-General of the WHO noted the efforts of Belarus to improve and strengthen the national health system in the provision of primary health care, in the field of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, counteracting non-communicable diseases, and in particular in the implementation of screening breast cancer.

Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesus assured that WHO will continue to provide to the Government of Belarus the necessary assistance in accordance with national priorities.

The WHO Director General supported Belarus' interest in holding a presentation of the Belarusian system of teaching foreign students and the pharmaceutical industry in Belarus on the margins of the 71st session of the World Health Assembly.
