On the participation of the Belarusian delegation in the UNECE activities on statistics

On 16-19 April 2018 Geneva hosted the Second Meeting on Statistics for Sustainable Development Goals and the Workshop on Reporting and Communicating Statistics for SDGs which were organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.

Representatives of more than 70 countries reviewed issues related to preparation of national plans and strategies for achieving SDGs, developing statistical reporting platforms, as well as on exchange if best practices in these areas.

The Belarusian delegation was headed by Ms. Elena Kukharevich, Deputy Chairman of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, who made a presentation on the functioning of the National System on Indicators and Monitoring of SDGs in Belarus.

She noted that the Republic of Belarus organized a systematic work at various levels to achieve SDGs. With the aim to assess the effectiveness of this work Belarus developed a list of 255 national indicators on SDGs, with the involvement of 26 state bodies and organizations its drafting. Currently, the concept of the national reporting system is being developed, the launch of which is scheduled for the end of 2018.
