Geneva Side-Event on Human Rights Perspectives of Trafficking for Organ Removal

On September 21, 2015 in Geneva in the margins of the 30th session of the Human Right Council a thematic side-event on Human Rights Perspectives of Trafficking for Organ Removal took place on the initiative of Belarus. The Russian Federation and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) cosponsored the event. The representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affaires of Belarus, the OHCHR, the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime, the World Health Organization and the Organization on Security and Cooperation in Europe took part in the event as panelists.

Common approaches to protection of human rights in combating trafficking for organ removal contained in documents of various international bodies were explored during the discussion. The event was of great interest for delegations of the UN member states and the non-governmental organizations which made their input into the debate.

The OHCHR will take into account the outcomes of the discussion while elaborating the guidance on human rights protection in combating trafficking for organ removal.
