On the statement of the Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva at the Ambassadors’ Round table in the framework of the 7th UNCTAD World Investment Forum

22.10.2021

On October 22, 2021, Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva Mr. Yury Ambrazevich took part in a meeting of the Ambassadors’ Round Table, within the program of the 7th UNCTAD World Investment Forum.

Yury Ambrazevich noted the harmful nature of unilateral coercive measures for the recovery and development of the investment sector after the COVID-19 pandemic. Such measures lead to blocking of financial flows, which makes it difficult to create new and maintain the activities of existing joint ventures, hinders investment through mergers and acquisitions. Unilateral coercive measures artificially shrink markets and disrupt value chains, which also negatively impact the ability to attract investment.

The Belarusian representative expressed his conviction that recovery and development, including in the investment sector, largely depends on our ability to realize the potential of regional and interregional integration.

In this sense, Belarus welcomes the inclusion of issues of regional integration and promotion of dialogue between regional integration entities into the UNCTAD mandate.

Yury Ambrazevich informed the participants of the Roundtable about the high-level online conference “Harnessing inter-regional integration for SDGs” held on May 20, 2021, co-organized by Belarus.

The representative of Belarus highly appreciated the Forum's events on the topic of integration and expressed hope that UNCTAD would continue to serve in the future as a platform for interaction between integration economic entities in the investment sphere.
