The Delegation of Belarus Takes Part in the 74th session of the World Health Assembly

The 74th session of the World Health Assembly is taking place by videoconference from 24 May to 1 June 2021. The delegation of the Republic of Belarus, headed by Minister of Health Dmitry Pinevich, takes part in the Assembly.

The session’s focus is on global efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and prevent new emergencies. The Assembly is also set to discuss a number of challenges related to the WHO strengthening process, antibiotic resistance, biosafety, mental health during pandemics, HIV/AIDS, as well as work on poliomyelitis, malaria and other issues.

In his statement delivered on May 25, 2021 the Minister of Health outlined Belarus’ approaches to combating the COVID-19 pandemic, focused on the national vaccination campaign’s progress as well as on Belarus’ plans to develop its own vaccine and launch its production.

Moreover, Dmitry Pinevich welcomed the WHO Director General’s systemic efforts to adjust the Organization to current realities. He stressed that Belarus had actively participated in the development of a draft resolution on strengthening WHO preparedness and response to health emergencies, and expressed support to a WHA decision to launch an intergovernmental process to develop a framework convention on pandemic preparedness and response.
