29.11.2018

From 27 to 30 November Geneva has been hosting the 109th session of the Council of the International Organization for Migration. His Excellency Mr Yury Ambrazevich, Head of Belarus’ delegation and Permanent Representative to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, delivered a statement in the general debate on 28 November.

In his statement the Permanent Representative of Belarus dwelt on the global compact for migration, which is to be adopted at the international conference on migration in December in Morocco. The Belarusian diplomat further highlighted the need for addressing the root causes behind the surge in forced displacement worldwide, above all, wars and conflicts, which mainly arise owing to disagreements between major states. In this regard, Mr Yury Ambrazevich again reminded of the initiative of the President of the Republic of Belarus on the need to find new mechanisms for positive engagement of global geopolitical players, and stated Belarus’ willingness to provide a venue for the appropriate dialogue.
