Permanent Representative of Belarus Mr. Yury Ambrazevich Addresses IOM Council’s 110th Session

From 26 to 29 November Geneva has been hosting the 110th session of the Council of the International Organization for Migration. His Excellency Mr. Yury Ambrazevich, Head of the delegation of Belarus and Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, delivered a statement in the general debate on 26 November.

In his statement the Permanent Representative of Belarus dwelt on the Global compact for migration that was adopted in 2018. The Head of the delegation of Belarus welcomed the role assumed by the IOM in its implementation, in particular as the coordinator of the UN Network on Migration. Moreover, Ambassador Yury Ambrazevich focused on the need to address the root causes behind the surge in forced displacement worldwide, above all, wars and conflicts. In this regard, the Permanent Representative of Belarus drew attention to the initiative of Belarus’ President Mr. Aleksander Lukashenko to launch a global security dialogue as a tool to deal with multiple threats and challenges, including the problem of massive forced displacement.
