On the participation of Belarus in the meetings of the working bodies of the Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents

On 11-13 February 2019, a number of meetings of working bodies of the Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents, namely the Bureau of the Convention, the Working Group on the Implementation of the Convention and the joint session of Bureau and the Working Group took place in Geneva under the auspices of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

The delegation of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus, which included Mr. Pavel Chukharev, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Division, and Mr. Yevgeny Baranovsky, Chief Specialist of the International Cooperation Department, participated in the above meetings.

The key topic of the discussions was devoted to the development of major directions of further activities within Convention as well as strengthening cooperation between UNECE Member states on the implementation of the treaty.

The Belarusian delegation took an active part in the consideration of issues related to improving the effectiveness of the Assistance Program, which was launched under the Convention.

Belarus is actively using the site of the Convention on the Effects of Industrial Accidents for the development of regional cooperation aimed at improving emergency management and developing joint response procedures to accidents.
