On participation of Belarus in the 40th session of the PCB UNAIDS

27-29 June, 2017, the 40th session of the Program Coordinating Board (PCB) of the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS was held at WHO headquarters in Geneva, chaired by the Executive Director of UNAIDS Michel Sidibé.

The Republic of Belarus for the first time took part in the event as a member of the PCB UNAIDS at the level of the First Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Belarus Dmitry Pinevich.

During the session, the epidemiological situation in the world in connection with HIV infection, the implemented preventive measures, as well as the main problems related to the expansion of HIV prevention coverage, based primarily on overcoming high purchase prices for antiretroviral (ARV) drugs were considered.

 

The participants of the forum during the statements of the Head of the Belarusian delegation were presented information on priorities of Belarus in the field of further prevention and reduction of the HIV/AIDS burden in the country, analyzed the mechanisms where the state is involved, including international cooperation.

 

The efforts of the Republic of Belarus in the field of combating the spread of HIV/AIDS received positive feedback from the PCB UNAIDS member states and the leaders of the Secretariat of the Joint Program. International experts also welcomed the confirmation by the Republic of Belarus in June 2017 of the WHO certificate on excluding the facts of vertical from mother to child transmission of HIV and syphilis (confirmed annually) received at the UN General Assembly in 2016.

Participation of the representatives of the Belarusian Government in the work of the governing body of UNAIDS allows preserving the attention of the international community to the needs and problems of middle-income countries, one of which is the Republic of Belarus, helps to promote national priorities and contributes to the development of international cooperation on HIV/AIDS.
