On the participation of the Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Office in Geneva Y.Ambrazevich at the opening ceremony of the monument to T.Kostyushko in Switzerland

23.10.2017

At the invitation of the Association of Belarusians in Switzerland, on October 21, 2017 the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva Yury Ambrazevich participated in the opening ceremony of the monument to T.Kostyushko in the Swiss city of Solothurn.

In his speech to the participants of the event, the Belarusian diplomat stressed the international character of the historical significance of the personality of Tadeusz Kostyushko, which is certainly a reason for pride in Belarus, on which territory he was born.

The Belarusian representative to the UN pointed out the direct connection between the liberal ideas of democracy, personal freedom and equality supported by Kostyushko, with modern concepts of the constitutions of most countries of the world, including the basic documents of the United Nations.

Yury Ambrazevich emphasized that the name of Kostyushko would not be used by Belarus to justify one party's righteousness or to prove the guilt of other participants in historical events, as a result of which Kostyushko gained the world fame.

The Permanent Representative stressed that Belarus is convinced of the existence of a way to strengthen its national identity without a dangerous opposition to other peoples and, above all, to its neighbors. He expressed confidence that the history should serve a peaceful future and mutual understanding between peoples and not become an instrument in the hands of politicians.
