On participation in the WSIS Forum 2016

Belarus’ delegation headed by the Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva Yury Ambrazevich takes part in the World Summit on the Information Society Forum 2016 – WSIS Forum.

WSIS Forum participants will discuss the issue of harnessing the power of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to accelerate global socio-economic development and to reach 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Ranked 36th in the world ranking on Information Society Development, this year Belarus also participates in the WSIS Prizes contest among IT projects, which is held during the Forum.

Two out of four Belarusian projects, which participated in the contest, are ranked among WSIS Prize 2016 Champions. This success once again acknowledges our country’s status as one of the world’s ICT talents factory.

Following projects became WSIS Prize 2016 Champions:

“Places to go” by the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus;

“IT Education” by the Educational Center of High Technology Park.

 

WSIS Forum is the world’s largest annual gathering of the ICT for development (ICT4D) community. It is a unique global platform and an integral part of the ongoing WSIS Process. The President of Belarus participated in the launch of the WSIS Process in 2003 in Tunisia The Forum is hosted by ITU together with co-organizers UNESCO, UNCTAD and UNDP in close collaboration with the UN and sister agencies.
