11.05.2016

On May 20, 2016 Regional Forum on Sustainable Development was held in Geneva under the frame of the UN Economic Commission for Europe. Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, Yury Ambrazevich, took part at the Forum.

The participants of the Forum discussed the achievement by the European region of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted at the UN Summit in September 2015.

In his speech, Y.Ambrazevich presented Belarus vision of the organization and practical implementation of the above work. Permanent Representative of Belarus noted that the National Programme of the Sustainable Development for 2030, adopted in Belarus in 2015, conceptually coincides with the UN Agenda on the Sustainable Development. The Programme creates a good basis for the achievement by Belarus  of the Sustainable Development Goals at the national level.

As a key element of the regional approach to the SDGs achievement, Y.Ambrazevich called for the renewal of the social and economic dimension in activity of European regional organizations, including within the UN Economic Commission for Europe.

Belarusian diplomat suggested using the UN Economic Commission for Europe as a hub for the discussion of the ways of activation of the cooperation of the European integration structures. It would be a real contribution to the sustainable development of the European region.

The results of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Regional Forum on Sustainable Development will be presented at the upcoming high level meeting on the sustainable development to be held in New-York in July 2016.
