On the Belarusian Presidency in the United Nations Conference on Disarmament
27.08.2020From August 24 to September 18, 2020, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the UN Office in Geneva Mr. Yury Ambrazevich holds office of the President of the Conference on Disarmament.

The Conference is a multilateral forum for discussion and negotiations on the topics of nuclear disarmament, prevention of nuclear war; prevention of an arms race in outer space; the conclusion of effective international arrangements to assure non-nuclear-weapon States against the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons; prohibition of the development of new types of weapons of mass destruction and new systems of such weapons.
On August 27, 2020, the first plenary session was convened under the Presidency of Belarus.

Yury Ambrazevich in his statement outlined the priorities for the work of the Conference, presented the draft report of the 2020 session of the Conference, announced a thematic discussion on the topic of prohibition of the development of new types of weapons of mass destruction.
He also called on the delegates for constructive cooperation aimed at restoring the effective work of the Conference in order to develop timely response to emerging threats and challenges in the field of international security.
