On the participation of Belarus in the sessions of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) in 2019

On 28 October – 1 November 2019, the Sessions of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) took place in Geneva.

The delegation of Belarus was headed by Mr. Vladimir Grakun, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus. The delegation also included representatives of the State Inspectorate for Testing and Protection of Plant Varieties and the Permanent Mission of Belarus in Geneva.

The Belarusian delegation took an active participation in the discussions of agenda items and adoption of the development strategy for the plant variety protection, the use of DNA markers for seeds, as well as methodological recommendations for conducting tests on “distinguishability, uniformity, and stability”.

Under the auspices of the event, Mr.  Vladimir Grakun held a series of bilateral meetings with the UPOV Vice Secretary-General Mr. Peter Button, with the delegations of Russia, the European Union, the Netherlands, Poland and Moldova, during which the sides discussed areas of cooperation with UPOV, as well as issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture.
