The 54-th Series of WIPO Assemblies began its work

 The 54-th Series of the Assemblies of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) began its work on September 22, 2014 in Geneva. The key event within the Series is a session of the General Assembly of WIPO.

Republic of Belarus is represented at the event by the delegation headed by Mikhail Khvostov, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus in Geneva, who also serves as the Vice-Chairman of the WIPO General Assembly. The delegation includes representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Center of Intellectual Property and the Permanent Mission.

The head of the Belarusian delegation delivered a statement at the plenary session of the WIPO General Assembly on behalf of the Regional Group of Central Asian, Caucasus and Eastern European countries. He positively assessed the role of WIPO and its working bodies in the development of a global system of intellectual property protection.

The statement underlined the need for the strengthening of the WIPO development and capacity-building activities, as well as the fact that these activities should respond to the needs of countries with economies in transition, to be aimed at bridging the gap in knowledge and technology, the modernization of infrastructure, to facilitate the access to specialized databases.

The statement also reflected the constructive position of the regional group in relation to the WIPO normative agenda, in particular, to the development of international treaties in the fields of industrial design law and the protection of broadcasting organizations
