On the election of the Permanent Representative of Belarus as Vice-President of the 12th Conference of the States Parties to Protocol V to the CCW

17.11.2017

The Permanent Representative of Belarus to the United Nations Office in Geneva Yury Ambrazevich was elected as Vice-President of the 12th Conference of the States Parties to Protocol V to the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects (CCW) by the Eastern-European Group of States.

Protocol V to the CCW, adopted on November 28, 2003, deals with post-conflict clearance of “explosive remnants of war” — unexploded and abandoned explosives. The Protocol stipulates obligations of States Parties to demine, remove and destroy “explosive remnants of war”. The Protocol also requires to take measures to protect civilians from the impact of unexploded and abandoned explosives. 93 states are Parties to Protocol V.

The election of a representative of Belarus once again confirms the authority of Belarus as an active and consistent supporter of building a more secure world.

The 12th Conference of the States Parties to Protocol V to the CCW will be held in Geneva (Switzerland) in the fourth quarter of 2018.
