On Universal Meeting of National Committees and Similar Bodies on International Humanitarian Law

Delegation of Belarus headed by the Minister of Justice Mr Oleg Slizheuski participates in the Universal Meeting of National Committees and Similar Bodies on International Humanitarian Law, which takes place on 30 November – 2 December in Geneva.

The meeting is organized by the International Committee of Red Сross and the Government of Switzerland and is dedicated to the theme: «Enhancing Protection in Armed Conflict through Domestic Law and Policy».

Delegations from 180 states, that had established national committees or similar bodies, shared national experience, discussed international challenges with respect to preservation and protection of cultural property, protection of the provision of health care, protection of internally displaced persons in the event of armed conflict.

At the plenary session the Chair of the National commission of Belarus presented Belarus’ experience on implementation of international humanitarian law in the national law and highlighted areas of priority of the Commission’s activities. While talking about the importance of international cooperation, Mr. Slizheuski confirmed the readiness of Belarus to share its experience with the aim of strengthening of international peace and security.
