On the publication of the UNECE Sub-regional Innovation Policy Outlook
26.11.2020On 25 November 2020, the UN Economic Commission for Europe launched the Sub-regional Innovation Policy Outlook 2020: Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus. The opening ceremony of the high-level webinar was attended by the UNECE Executive Secretary H.E. Ms. Olga Algayerova and the WIPO Director General H.E. Mr. Daren Tang, who noted the key role of innovation in ensuring sustainable development and inclusive growth, as well as in the overcoming the negative socio-economic consequences of COVID-19 pandemic.
During the event, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology of Belarus Mr. Sergey Sherbakov made a presentation about the measures taken to develop the State policy in the area of innovation. The head of the Belarusian delegation noted the wide involvement of the governmental agencies of Belarus in the process of preparation of the Outlook, which is considered as one of the instruments to further improve the national innovation policy.
The Outlook positively evaluates the work of the Government of Belarus aimed at the development of the ICT technology sector, the creation of appropriate start-ups, as well as the development of the venture capital market. Belarus has high positions on the quality of education and the activities of scientific institutions.
