On the election of Belarus to the position of Chairperson of the UN Economic Commission for Europe
10.04.2019On 9 – 10 April 2019, the 68th session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) took place in Geneva.
During the session, Mr. Yury Ambrazevich, Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Office in Geneva, was unanimously elected as a Chairperson of the UNECE. Belarus will be heading the Executive Committee and the UNECE Bureau for the period from 2019 to 2021. Switzerland and Romania were elected as Vice-Chairs.
It is for the first time Belarus was elected to the highest position of the main executive body of an international economic organization of the UN system. The decision taken testifies to the recognition of the significant contribution of our country to strengthening UNECE capacity which serves as a comprehensive and effective platform for the economic and social development of the member States of the Commission.
