On WIPO regional seminar in Minsk on intellectual property in the modern world

As a follow-up to the agreements reached during the official visit to Belarus in June 2019 of H.E. Mr. Francis Garry, the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), on 25-26 February 2020 a regional seminar “Intellectual Property in the Modern World: New challenges” took place in Minsk. The event was organized by the State Committee on Science and Technology of Belarus, the National Intellectual Property Center, and the “BelBrand” Intellectual Property Protection Association in cooperation with WIPO.

The event was attended by Mr. Michal Svantner, Director of the Department of Developed and Transition Countries of the WIPO Secretariat, as well as representatives of patent offices of Belarus, Poland, Kazakhstan, Russia and Slovenia.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Sergey Sherbakov, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology of Belarus, Mr. Vladimir Ryabovolov, Director General of the NCIP, delivered welcoming statements to participants of the seminar.

The agenda of the event included consideration of issues on the organization of education in the field of intellectual property, the development of cooperation in industrial science, the development of a methodology for the assessment and accounting of intellectual property in Belarus. A separate session was devoted to the topic of protection of intellectual property rights and data security in the context of the active development of digital technologies.

The seminar aims to promote the role of Minsk as a platform for the development of regional cooperation on the protection of intellectual property rights.
