On the participation of the First Deputy Minister of Transport of Belarus A.Avramenko in the 70th anniversary of the UNECE Inland Transport Committee
21.02.2017A range of events devoted to the 70th anniversary of the UNECE Inland Transport Committee (ITC) is held from 20 to 24 February 2017. The Belarusian delegation headed by the First Deputy Minister of Transport Mr. Aleksei Avramenko takes part in the events.
On 21 February heads of ministries of transport of the UNECE Member States participate in the Ministerial Meeting “Past and Future of the UNECE Inland Transport Committee”.
During the meeting Aleksei Avramenko made the presentation on the role of ITC as a body which administers 57 transport conventions and international agreements. He stated that the participation of Belarus in 23 UNECE conventions contributes to the smooth freight and passengers transit through the territory of the Republic of Belarus. Aleksei Avramenko emphasized that due to the bringing national legislation into conformity with international law, the reconstruction of transport infrastructure and the implementation of the preventive measures, in the last 10 years the number of road accidents decreased in Belarus 2 times, and the number of deaths in road accidents — 2.5 times.

At the end of the Ministerial Meeting, the debates were followed by the signing of the Ministerial Resolution “Embracing the new era for sustainable inland transport and mobility”. The resolution is intended to convey the appreciation of the highest level of constituency for the work carried out by the Committee and its subsidiary bodies and to recognize the contribution of the Committee at the regional and global level. Member States agreed on mandating the Committee to report, on an annual basis, to both the Commission and, for information purposes, to ECOSOC.

On the margins of the Ministerial Meeting the Belarusian delegation met with the UNECE Executive Secretary Christian Friis Bach, Director of the UNECE Transport Division Eva Molnar, the European Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc, etc. During the meetings, participants discussed, besides the issues of general cooperation, the organization of the Ministerial Conference “Promoting Connectivity in the CEI region: Building Bridges between Europe and Asia”. The Conference will be held in June 2017 in Minsk. One of the thematic panels of the Conference will be devoted to transport.
