On the meeting of the Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva with the Director General of WIPO
03.11.2020On 3 November 2020, Permanent Representative of Belarus H.E. Mr. Yury Ambrazevich met with H.E. Mr. Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, at WIPO headquarters in Geneva.
Yury Ambrazevich congratulated Daren Tang on his appointment as the head of WIPO in October 2020 and outlined the practical importance of cooperation between Belarus and the Organization on issues related to the intellectual property protection. As a practical step of Belarus Government to ensure rights of visually impaired persons, on 22 October 2020, Belarus joined WIPO Marrakesh Treaty on Access to Published Works. The State Committee on Science and Technology of Belarus and the National Center for Intellectual Property are working on Belarus accession to WIPO Hague Agreement, which will allow our country to become a full-fledged participant of the international system for registration of industrial designs. WIPO provides practical assistance to Belarus in developing the national intellectual property system.
In his turn, Daren Tan positively noted the significant development of WIPO interaction with Belarus in recent years and confirmed the readiness to expand cooperation in line with the bilateral program of work for 2021. Particular attention will be paid to issues related to support of innovations, commercialization of intellectual property, as well as the development of IP arbitration system in Belarus.
