09.10.2019

On 8 October, His Excellency Mr. Yury Ambrazevich, Head of the delegation of Belarus and Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, delivered a national statement in the general debate of the 70th session of the UNHCR’s Executive Committee.

In his statement the Permanent Representative of Belarus has praised the work carried out by the UNHCR that seeks to provide protection to both refugees and stateless persons and focused on the implementation of the Global compact on refugees that has been adopted by the UN General Assembly late last year. Mr. Yury Ambrazevich has also informed the session of the commitments undertaken by Belarus at the High-level segment on statelessness, held on 7 October, to accede to the 1954 Convention relating to the Status of Stateless Persons and the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness.

Moreover, the Head of the Belarus’ delegation drew attention to the international initiative of Belarus to launch a global security dialogue, whose implementation would help, inter alia, eliminate such root causes underlying massive forced displacement as wars and conflicts.
