Belarus’ delegation headed by the Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva Yury Ambrazevich participates in the World Summit on the Information Society Forum WSIS Forum 2017, which is taken place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 12 to 16 June 2017.

In advance of the Forum, a contest WSIS Prize 2017 for the UN awards in the field of building the information society was held, where Belarus won for the first time.

The project of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus ‘Greenmap Belarus’ won the competition in the nomination E-Environment.

The award ceremony took place on 13 June as part of the opening ceremony of the Forum. The Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union Houlin Zhao presented a memorable award and a diploma to Alexander Opimakh, Deputy Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva.

The award means the recognition by the international community of Belarus' active progress in building the information society and in widespread introduction of information and communication technologies.

The Forum is held by the ITU together with a coalition of UN agencies and international organizations, including UNECE, WIPO, UNESCO, UNICEF, UNDP, WHO, WMO, and is a global platform for discussing the introduction of information and communication technologies in all areas of life with a view to an early transition to the information community.

The Greenmap Belarus (http://greenmap.by) is a resource developed by the Center for Environmental Solutions under the project of the Ministry of Natural Resources “Promoting the transition of the Republic of Belarus to a green economy”, financed by the EU and implemented by the United Nations Development Program.
