On the meeting of the Chairman of the SCST Alexander Shumilin with WIPO Director General Francis Gurry
01.10.2019On 1 October 2019, the Chairman of the State Committe on Science and Technologies of Belarus Mr.Alexander Shumilin met with WIPO Director General Francis Gurry at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva.
Mr.Alexander Shumilin noted the progressive dynamics in the development of cooperation between the Government of Belarus and WIPO and informed about the measures taken by the Government of Belarus to improve national legislation in the field of intellectual property protection and promotion of innovations, as well as about Belarus′ plans to join a number of international treaties concluded under the auspices of WIPO. He also thanked the WIPO Director General for the technical and expert assistance provided by Organization to Belarus to solve this problem.
Francis Gurry praised the efforts of the Belarusian leadership to ensure the protection of intellectual property in the country, emphasized the constructive and keen nature of cooperation with Belarus, urging them to work together on the implementation of the agreements reached during his visit to Minsk in June this year.
During the meeting, the General Director of the Nationl Center of Intellectual Property Mr.Vladimir Ryabovolov and the Director General of WIPO, Francis Gurry signed a Memorandum of Understanding between on the Alternative Dispute Resolution Process in the Field of Intellectual Property, which will allow WIPO to provide expert and technical assistance in developing the institute of mediation and arbitration in IP disputes.
