On the meetings of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Yuri Ambrazevich during his visit to Geneva

On March 14, 2024, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Yuri Ambrazevich met with Director General of the UN Office in Geneva, Secretary General of the Conference on Disarmament and the Personal Representative of the UN Secretary General Tatiana Valovaya.

During the conversation, Yuri Ambrazevich and Tatiana Valovaya confirmed their belief in the need to counter the processes of degradation of the international security system through strengthening multilateral institutions and negotiation platforms. The Belarusian diplomat focused on the particular importance of speedily agreeing on a global security dialogue in the spirit of San Francisco, proposed by the President of the Republic of Belarus. The Deputy Minister informed his interlocutor about the results of the high-level international conference on Eurasian security held in Minsk in October 2023.

Youth and children’s topics in international cooperation became the main focus of the meetings and events of the Deputy Minister in Geneva on March 14. Yuri Ambrazevich presented the national experience of involving youth in state building and social development at a special thematic event “Youth as a driving force for sustainable solutions for a better future” organized by the Belarusian diplomatic mission to the UN in Geneva.

The discussion was held in partnership with the UN Economic Commission for Europe and became Belarus’ contribution to regional efforts to achieve the SDGs in Europe. Participants of the event from different countries and UN representatives exchanged experience in involving youth in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda at the national level, presented ideas and plans on how to make this process more effective.

The Deputy Minister held a meeting with Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia Regina De Dominicis.

Current and promising areas of cooperation between the Government and UNICEF in the field of education, social protection, as well as the fight against crimes against children, including in the digital space (Internet), were considered.

The attention of the UNICEF Regional Director was drawn to the systematic efforts of the Government to solve the problems that Belarus faces in ensuring the rights of the child, meeting the special needs of children in difficult life situations, children with disabilities and rare diseases. UNICEF opportunities to provide additional support to national efforts were discussed.

Issues of cooperation in the field of protection and promotion of children’s rights were also discussed during the meetings of the Deputy Minister with Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Violence against Children Najat Maalla M’jid, and with Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict Virginia Gamba.
