Belarusian-Russian Briefing on the Eurasian Charter of Multidiversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century

19.02.2025

On February 18, 2025, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus Larysa Belskaya and the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation Gennadiy Gatilov held a joint briefing for the diplomatic corps in Geneva on the Belarusian-Russian initiative to develop a Eurasian Charter for Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century.

Belarusian and Russian diplomats presented the idea of the Charter as an important document that will serve to strengthen international security and contribute to the creation of a fair world order, primarily in the Eurasian space. They emphasized that the initiative is not directed against any country or group of countries, and stressed the importance of establishing dialogue with all potential participants, including European states.

The Russian Permanent Representative paid attention to the prospects for the formation of a new Eurasian security architecture, one of the key principles of which should be the elimination of the root causes of conflicts. It is necessary to generate ideas based not on the rule of force, but on equality and a fair balance of interests.

The Permanent Representative of Belarus particularly emphasized the need to enshrine in the Charter respect for diversity and multipolarity as the most important characteristics of the modern world as well as the dynamically developing Eurasian region. She noted the importance of a pan-Eurasian inclusive process during which an increasing number of countries could support the idea of the Eurasian Charter for Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century.

The Belarusian-Russian initiative aroused active interest among the briefing participants, representing a  number of integration structures in Eurasia and beyond, including the CIS, EAEU, European Union, SCO, BRICS, ASEAN, etc.
