On events of second day of working visit of Foreign Minister of Belarus Maxim Ryzhenkov to Geneva
25.02.2025On 25 February 2025, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Maxim Ryzhenkov took part in the meeting of the heads of delegations of the member states of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter. In his speech, the Minister emphasized the importance of the mission of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter to defend UN norms and principles, which are grossly and systematically violated by a group of Western countries using threats and blackmail. The experience of the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus to the countries of the Middle East showed that many problems could be solved if all participants in international relations complied with their obligations in accordance with the UN Charter. The head of Belarusian diplomacy confirmed the value of the UN as an irreplaceable platform for promoting peace, sustainable development and human rights.
Further, in the first half of the day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus held a constructive conversation with Tatyana Valovaya, the Deputy Secretary General of the UN, the Director-General of the UN Office in Geneva, who is also the Secretary-General of the UN Conference on Disarmament.
Maxim Ryzhenkov informed Tatyana Valovaya about the priorities of the Belarusian chairmanship of the Eurasian Economic Union in 2025. The interlocutors discussed issues of EAEU positioning on international platforms and, first of all, in the UN, and indicated a number of joint steps in this direction.
Addressing the topic of security and disarmament, the Minister confirmed Belarus’ fundamental interest in resuming an inclusive and substantive global dialogue in this area of international relations.
As Belarus’ contribution to reducing international tensions, the head of Belarusian diplomacy presented to the Director-General of the UN Office in Geneva the Belarusian initiative to develop the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century, supported by the Russian Federation and open to all interested states of the continent, emphasizing its potential to ensure common and indivisible security for all.
At a meeting with his Venezuelan colleague Ivan Gil Pinto, Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov discussed the interaction of Belarus and Venezuela in international organizations.
A conversation also took place with Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations (Foreign Minister) of the Holy See, Paul Richard Gallagher, on issues of bilateral cooperation of mutual interest.
