Permanent Representative of Belarus Yury Ambrazevich met with UNHCR Regional Director for Europe
18.10.2019On 17 October, the Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva Yury Ambrazevich met with Pascale Moreau, Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
During the meeting the parties discussed such issues as current and future cooperation between the Government and the UNHCR in the context of Belarus’ forthcoming accession in 2020 to international conventions on statelessness.
The UNHCR Regional Director expressed support for the Government’s efforts to manage the growing number of foreigners seeking asylum and additional protection in Belarus under the international refugee protection regime.
The representative of UNHCR also praised Belarus’s efforts to foster international cooperation in the area of combating human trafficking. The parties dwelt on the possibility of holding a joint event on the topic of combating trafficking in persons in the context of armed conflict on the sidelines of the 33rd session of the International Conference of the Red Cross in December 2019.
